It has been almost four years since I have made a post. My world disintegrated in 2019. Almost everything in my life has changed since then and nothing for the better. It has been a very long and sad story that I will not burden the reader with at this point, other than to say I have ended up far away and removed from my beloved Gulf Coast and the now seemingly blessed life I had. To be lost in the very "Mountains of Madness. For almost 2 years I have had little urge to do much of anything. I sit and watch the telly, surf the net, and play the "Sims4". I have numbed my mind with loss. I guess in a way I have withdrawn and retired from life. It has taken me quite a while to get to this point where I am able to even consider taking up my long neglected blog once more. Initially I was way to busy to take time for making an occasional post, but the good kind of busy. When all was lost I did not think I would ever care to blog again or anything else. I am now waking up after a long sleep and in a way want to reach out into the world once more. I know that very few people will see this so it is kind of a safe step out of doors for me so to speak.

The image above is an art photograph that I did late last year. It started out as an image of some leaves blown to the curb in a strip mall parking lot. The next day I just happened to run into this big mantis on the front porch of where I am residing so I took a photo. I took an image of the rose that I have in a pot. Added an image of an ancient silver coin from the Greek city of Ephesus.
Photoshoped the living daylights out of them and ended up with this digital image that I have called "Rock n Roll". It is entitled as such, because the rose is named, "Rock & Roll". Created by American rose breeder, Tom Carruth, in 2006 and introduced to the U.S.in 2007 by Weeks Wholesale Rose Grower, Inc.

I Am Back With a New Piece of Ceramic Art Pottery!

I know that it has been quite awhile since I have made a post on my pottery blog.  I must make apologies to you for this.  I have taken a small vacation from my pottery and the internet and have focused on on a number of things in the real world.  I have made it sound a bit dire maybe, but it has been far from being so. I have been working in my garden, entertaining company, working on home related projects, selling antiques, buying antiques, and generally having a busy but enjoyable time of it all!  Now I will be back to doing pottery here in Ocean Springs.  I have many new piece of ceramic art pottery in the processes of being made as I write this. About a dozen or so new works to be painted and fired!  I have gained a new and hopefully lasting focus on my sculptural pottery and I am more than ready to start back to the joy that for me is doing ceramic art pottery.
Here is one of my latest works fresh from the kiln! I call this one "The Thorny Sea Flower Vase".  This is one of those works that just vibrates with life and color.  The tendrils all have delightfully sharp little points that will actually poke you if one picks it up by the tendrils.  This was a piece that really just came together so perfectly.  This one was a total pleasure to create.
One last thing about this vase.  It was sold the same day I got it home from being fired!  I love to make these pieces and I must say that I also love to sell them.

Selling your work is the benchmark to how much your work is accepted and appreciated.  For us artists it is such a feeling of satisfaction to have a piece sell.  I create art, "Ars gratia artis"(Art for art's sake)and I will create if it sells or if it does not sell, because that is what I have done all my life. So it is such an extra joy and blessing that I have been able to sell so much of my works for so many years now.
I would also like to take this moment in my life to thank everyone that has purchased my art over the years and all the varied people that have helped me,assisted me, and supported me, in my many artistic endeavors over the years. You all know who you are I should think.

More posts and more pottery to come soon!

Blue Lotus Flower Ceramic Art Pottery Bowl by Michael W. Moses Now on Etsy!

I call this piece of ceramic art pottery the "Blue Lotus Flower Bowl"  I have had it on my counter at South Coast Antiques in Ocean Springs for awhile now holding some of my business cards and featuring some of the last Hibiscus flowers of the season.
When I first put this piece out in the shop I had a woman say to me that one of her roses would look great displayed in the small vase portion of this piece. I jokingly said to her, "Oh, no Mame, This is a blue lotus flower bowl. Only a Blue lotus flower can be displayed in this piece". She looked at me and replied," Now where on Earth is one supposed to find a blue lotus flower at"!  I responded to her, that, that was the whole point of the piece!
Well, my search for a blue lotus flower for it has come to no avail and I have had to settle for less exotic blossoms.  I have some images of this piece below and please take note that the business cards displayed are merely for looks, they are from the long bygone era when everyone had a pager.
