Yellow Bulb Vase with Azalea Flowers by Michael W. Moses

This is an image that I took the other day, it features one of my nice bright yellow and blue bulb vases. This one is jauntily displaying a small bouquet of rather large red  azalea flowers. I have used one of my paintings that I did back in the early 1990's as a background.

This is a new work that I call the "Thermal Vent Red Pod Vase". It is in glowing fiery tones of red and orange. The inside and the little round holes in the sides are glazed in a deep brownish shiny, lustrous glaze.

"Spider web matrix, tree frog vase".
It has a crackled glaze to give it a little bit of
an over all spider web like finish. SOLD

This is an image of a tree frog that I took in my garden yesterday.
It is a tiny little creature. It is no more than the size of a dime.
It lives inside of a Queen's Tears Bromeliad.

Wisteria in a Ceramic Art Pottry Vase at South Coast Antiques & Gallery in Ocean Springs, MS

My Wisteria is in bloom, so I brought a piece into the shop and placed it into one of my ceramic art pottery vases.  I was really pleased with the effect that it created. Here is a picture of what it looked like sitting in the shop.  It gave off a delightful fragrance and truly brought a touch of spring into the shop.

Images of some Ceramic Art Pottery Works Sold by Michael W. Moses at South Coast Antiques & Gallery, Ocean Springs,MS

I have not done a post in a few days now, so here it goes.  I have been rather busy with the shop. We have been having an unusually high volume of customers dropping in to South Coast Antiques & Gallery during the last week.  The days have been warm and sunny and just flat out beautiful.  I have been working on a large (mainly tones of blue) vase and have been doing a lot of research on shop items.

I thought I would showcase a few images of some of the ceramic art pottery works that I had sold over the last couple of years.

This is what we refer to as a "sponge" bowl.
This one was in nice warm tones of brown and red. SOLD

The Delightful Ceramic Art Pottery Creatures of Eva Funderburgh

I came across Eva Funderburgh's enchanting works of art a while back and I have not been able to keep them out of my mind. I keep going back and looking at her works.  Her pieces remind me of rare and ancient artifacts that would be found on planets rotating around quite distant stars. They are just so magical that it seems that they create their own beautiful other worldly ambiance
Eva Funderburgh is a ceramic artist located in Seattle, Washington. Coming from an education in chemistry and sculpture, she has focused herself on making strange whimiscal clay creatures. She works on exploring the colors natural to the clay and the finishing process of woodfire, and strives to present creatures that equally mix whimsy, mischief, and threat.
You can follow the process of her work via her blog, her twitter, and her flickr account.

Michael W. Moses has an Evening at CoastCon Science Fiction Convention

I spent Saturday evening at the34th annual CoastCon Science Fiction Convention in Biloxi, MS.  It was held at the Mississippi Coast  Convention Center.  This years theme was "Zombies" !  So I put on my best zombie and off we went.

Michael W. Moses Zombified.
After a Long  Day Working at South Coast Antiques & Gallery

We did not get there until a bit before 6:00 pm. We had a very busy day at the shop!  I  was a bit disappointed to find out  once I arrived that I was apparently the only zombie there in costume!  I had hoped that I would be able to find a small group of about twenty or so zombies that I could hang out with and we could just mindlessly zombie around all over the place, but alas,  it was just not meant to be. So I just zombied around and had a great time being photographed and lurking about.

Being Attacked by a Zombie Hunter!
It Seems This Happens Every Time

I was able to do a quick run through the merchants room and I attended the costume contest.  I also saw the talented  Baklava Bellydance group.

I Love Baklava!
Then I took a few images. Very few. I spent more time being photographed than taking photographs.  I then spent a bit of time talking with friends. After which a group of  us went out for a bite at the Kings Buffet Chinese restaurant.in Biloxi. Over all I had a fairly nice evening out.

Back to doing pottery today!

A while back I did a piece that I call the" Peeper". This is an incense burner that has a number of beaded wire tremblers that I created and attached to give this sculptured ceramic piece a more whimsical look. CoastConFan did a great YouTube video of it and here it is!

Trilobite and Ammonite Fossil Patterned Bowl by Michael W. Moses

Here are some images of  a bowl that I finished painting a few weeks back.I modeled it in a vaguely shell like shape.  The exterior has been given a rough sea worn texture and the inside has a deeply embossed over all pattern of fossils.  If one looks closely they will see trilobite and ammonite impressions.  This bowl will be ready on Thursday if all goes well and I will post images of the finished piece as soon as I can get it photographed.

Here is an update of my Friday, March 4, 2011 post. This is what the vase I showed looked like after it was glazed. The areas that are mint green are the glaze. Once the piece is fired the green areas will turn into the clear glassy glaze and allow all the painting that it hides to be seen. The tendril, root areas that are free of the minty fresh, green glaze will be a matte finish.  I also added a bunch of little points all over the roots.  With any luck I will take this ceramic art vase to be fired this coming Thursday. I will post more images of it after I pick it up on the following Thursday.

Freshly Painted Ceramic Art Pottery Vase by Michael W. Moses

This is an image of a piece of hand modeled ceramic art pottery that I finished painting today.  It was all painted and ready to be glazed.when this image was taken. I glazed it this afternoon and it is now ready to be put in the Electric kiln and fired.  This vase stands approximately 7 inches tall.  This will not be fired for about two weeks, but I will put more images on line after it has been fired.  Hopefully this piece will come out of the kiln looking like I have planned on it coming out. On occasion things do not always look as I have envisioned them when they have been fired. Please note that these colors as they appear on this vase are not the actual colors of the final ceramic work. The colors are just dye that approximate the color in most cases and will change dramatically in some cases once fired . The dye is added just as a guide for the person that is doing the painting.  The dye is a rather modern development. The over glaze that goes over these colors is now dyed green.  Just a few years back the over glaze was not dyed, it was just plain white.  The addition of the green glaze really makes it a lot easier to see while applying. With any luck this piece will showcase the extreme amount of detailed work that I have put into this project.
